Overview
This tour includes a night in Kigali and 3 nights in the renown Volcanoes National Park region, home to the gentle giants; Mountain Gorillas. The country has experienced a dynamic transformation since the tragic genocide that took place in 1994. Memorials are scattered throughout the country, but the people of the “Land of a Thousand Hills” do not let history control their destiny, and visitors have the opportunity to develop a deep appreciation for the growth and unity of the Rwandan people.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Kigali
Arrive into Kigali. VIP Meet and greet assistance at the airport. You will be handed over to and warmly welcomed by our representative.
Transfer to city hotel for the hotel for check in. Before dinner tonight, we will have the opportunity for formal introductions and to run over the exciting program for your upcoming Rwanda tour.
Day 2 : Kigali – Musanze
08h30: After breakfast at the hotel, you will check out and settle all extras.
09h30: Proceed on a city tour that will include the Kigali Genocide memorial and the Inema arts gallery.
Highlight; The memorial sets out the history leading up to the genocide in Rwanda and also explains other genocides around the world. It includes poignant displays of victims’ photographs and belongings, bringing the realities of the atrocities to life. While it might seem an unusual tourist attraction and can be upsetting, it does help to put into context how and why the genocide happened and to better appreciate just how far the country has moved on together in the intervening years.
12h30: Lunch at Heaven Restaurant then set off for Musanze & Volcanoes National Park.
Arrive in the evening and check in at the hotel.
Dinner will follow and overnight stay.
Day 3 : Volcanoes National Park (Gorilla trek/People & Culture)
06h30: After an early breakfast at the hotel, proceed to the park headquarters in time for Gorilla Trek briefing at 07h00. We will then transfer you to the trail head of your guided walk that begins at 08h00.
There is no other wildlife experience quite like an encounter with mountain gorillas. That precious hour spent in their company – watching the group playing, sulking, teasing each other, eating, or dozing just like we do – is extraordinary.
Gorilla trekking can be arduous – some of the groups wander high up the mountainsides – but it is always utterly rewarding.
After this memorable experience, you will proceed to the hotel in time for lunch and cleaning of boots.
This afternoon at 15h00, you will visit the Gorilla guardians village.
Return to the hotel in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 : Volcanoes National Park (Golden Monkeys/twin lakes)
06h30: Today, you have an early breakfast transfer to the park headquarters for Golden monkey trekking briefing which starts at 07h00. We will then transfer you to the trail head of your guided walk that begins at 08h00.
The Tracking usually takes about 4 hrs. Once you come to the habituated families, you will spend the allowed one hour with them as they go about their daily life.
After this memorable experience, you will proceed to the hotel in time for lunch and cleaning of boots.
This afternoon, you will visit the twin lakes and have coffee at the Virunga lodge.
Descend later and return to the hotel.
Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5 : Musanze – Kigali (02h30 drive)
Breakfast at the hotel. Check out at leisure. Drive to Kigali. Arrive and have lunch at the Sole Luna Restaurant.
Transfer to the airport for outbound flight.
